Fundadas em 1920 pelos irmãos José, Manuel e Albano Costa, as Caves São João são uma empresa familiar que, a princípio, se dedicava à comercialização de vinhos finos do Douro e licores. É hoje a empresa familiar mais antiga ainda em actividade no concelho de Anadia.

Conciliando vanguardismo e tradição, a Caves São João iniciou a criação de vinhos espumantes e em 1959 a produção e comercialização à escala nacional e internacional de vinhos engarrafados de qualidade. Sempre inspirada no passado, plantou na Quinta do Poço do Lobo, adquirida em 1971, as castas que lhes permitiram inovar, tendo sempre presente a manutenção do perfil clássico dos seus vinhos.

Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, the Caves São João is a family business that was originally dedicated to the marketing of fine Douro wines and liqueurs. It is today, the oldest family-run wine company still operating in the municipality of Anadia.

Joining together innovation and tradition, the Caves São João started in the 30s the creation of sparkling wines and in 1959 the production and commercialization, both nationally and internationally, of bottled still wines of great quality. Always inspired by the past, they planted in Quinta do Poço do Lobo, acquired in 1971, the varieties that allowed them to innovate but always keeping in mind the classic profile of their wines.
